This juice really packs a punch, in flavor and nutritional benefits. We prepare this drink whenever we feel a cold or flu coming on. It’s anti microbial, anti inflammatory, rich with antioxidants and vitamins and balanced with some healthy fat. It’s sweet and spicy, a little tangy and bitter too. Here we are using powdered turmeric because we get it from our dad’s farm! But the fresh stuff, if you don’t mind the mess, is great too.
Recipe
Ingredients:
2 thumbs of ginger (1/4 cup of juice)
2 lemons (1/2 - 3/4 cups of juice)
6 large or 8 small oranges (4 cups of juice)
2 1/2 tbsp hemp seeds
2 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder or 1/4 cup juice from fresh turmeric
several cracks of black pepper or a pinch of cayenne pepper
1 tbsp honey (optional)
pinch of sea salt (optional)
Directions:
Thoroughly wash/rinse produce. Juice ginger (and turmeric if you are using fresh). Juice lemon and orange with a citrus juicer of your choice. Add all juices to a high speed blender along with the rest of the ingredients.
Blend until smooth.
Pour into a glass jug or jar and seal with a lid. I like re-using the glass VOSS water bottles or a large mason jar. Store in the fridge for up to 4 days. As a remedy for cold and flu, drink 2 - 6 oz at a time several times per day.
This recipe makes almost 1 litre of juice.
